ChaiMinar (Part 3)

As curiosity built, I asked Rizwan to tell me who they were. He smiled and began with the boy’s story.

It was six years ago when he visited Rizwan’s cafe. He came and sat at a corner table, dressed in an army uniform, still and quietly observing his new surroundings in Hyderabad. He ordered a Maska bun and a Tea, asking the waiter to take his time as he wasn’t in a hurry. While waiting, he watched a father dropping his son off at the school across from the cafe.

After a couple of minutes, his order arrived. As he sipped his tea, he received a video call. A few kids were wishing him a happy birthday, and he thanked them, also extending his wishes to another kid celebrating on the same day. After the call ended, he continued with his tea.

Then, there was a girl from the photograph sitting behind him in the same corner. She had overheard Avinash’ s earlier conversation and asked if she could speak with him for a moment. Introducing herself as Sneha, she apologized for eavesdropping and wished him a happy birthday. She shared that she had lost her brother, who was also in the Indian army, a year ago during a terrorist attack. Feeling a connection with Avinash, she wanted to wish him well.

When Sneha asked about Avinash’ s family, he smiled and explained that he was abandoned as a baby and grew up in an orphanage. With the help of friends and caretakers there, he eventually joined the army. Touched by his story, Sneha offered him a chocolate from her bag and exchanged numbers, insisting they meet again when he returned to Hyderabad.

As they finished their tea and left, Sneha insisted on paying Avinash’ s bill as a small treat. Avinash hesitated, but after a brief argument, Rizwan jokingly offered to pay for both of them, ultimately waiving the bill for both Sneha and Avinash, considering it Avinash’ s first time in Hyderabad and his birthday.

Upon seeing the photograph, I asked Rizwan when it was taken. He revealed it was taken a year ago on Sneha’s last birthday. I expressed curiosity about whether they were still in touch. Rizwan took the photograph from my hand and replied, “Not all those we meet are meant to stay, but there will be a few who not only stay but make our lives complete.”

As we reflect on the chance encounter between Avinash and Sneha, it’s evident that some connections have the power to reshape our lives. Already, they’ve brought a renewed sense of hope to Rizwan. However, what unfolds next in their journey is yet to be revealed. What becomes of their bond? How do their lives intertwine further? Rizwan’s story will continue to unveil the subsequent chapters of their story. So, I encourage you to stay tuned, as their narrative evolves, offering insights into the enduring power of human connection.
